BG – Being Green : natural plastic recycling by Worm Generation

worming our way out of plastic waste

Problem? The plastic pollution …

Polystyrene is one of the most used

plastic in the world and it is also

one of the less recycled…

It is mainly produced to be burnt, buried

or thrown away to the environment

Solution! Worms that eat plastic

Recently, scientific studies have

demonstrated that one insect species

is capable to biodegrade polystyrene:

the mealworm (Tenebrio molitor)

The Idea: biodegradation of plastics

Our team is now developing a farm project where mealworms would be reared to eat and biodegrade tons of polystyrene per year. No worries, the mealworms live perfectly in health after consuming plastic waste!

Our Vision: a mealworms farm
